MARTINEZ, Shirley Anne Amen -
On Jan. 15, 2005, Shirley Anne Amen Martinez, an inspiration to us all, left all of us who she loved to fend for ourselves. She is survived by her mother Maryellen Simmons of Napa; sisters, Paula Amen Schmitt of Castella and Linda Amen Otis of Napa; brother, Michael Amen of Vallejo; son, Julian Jay Martinez; daughter-in-law, Maria Real; and a most adored grandson Malakhi Rai Martinez. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Amen; and father-figure, George Simmons.
Shirley always worked hard and never complained. She was quick to take on the toughest challenges regardless of the odds; including being a 49er fan this last season. My mother had a magical way of transforming frustration into laughter. She was voted most witty in her Napa high class of '61 and kept on wielding it until the last moment. I hope that everyone who knew and appreciated her will join us on Sat. March 19, at the Point Montara Lighthouse for a Celebration of life and a Gathering of remembrance. The lighthouse will be available to us from 11:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m., music food and drink will be provided. People are welcome to stay the entire time, but we hope every one can be there between 1:00-3:00 pm. Anyone who wants to can stay for the Sunset.
Her insightful drive and determination was sometimes intimidating in contrast to her genuine caring and loving ways of uplifting and helping so many people. Everyone with whom she became intimate, or even casual contacts were always changed in one way or another. Let us all remember her mighty soul and tireless spirit as it enters the gates of heaven where she may be safe-guarded forever. We love you Shirley. Thank you for your many and numerous gifts whether we recognized them or not. Directions: From San Francisco, travel south on Highway 1. The town of Montara is approximately seven miles south of Pacifica. About a half mile past the town, there is a sign on the west side of the road marked "Hostel". Immediately past the sign is a small dirt road. The lighthouse is visible off the road. If you can or want to contact me, Julian via email: vision33@earthlink.net
